A few weeks ago I had a wedding that I’ve been looking forward to for absolute ages! It was the wedding of Heather & Phil!
They got married at St Matthias Church in Brighton. You may remember them from their engagement session back in May.
I first met Heather and Phil way back at the start of the year & the first email I ever received from Heather went something like this:
-
“I’ve looked at so many photographers sites recently that I was about to give up hope and resort to self-timer wedding shots, and then I found your site – hooray!
I should tell you that my wedding is not going to be a completely traditional affair, and it is going to be small, but other than the dress (and my husband-to-be, of course) I view the photography as the most important part!.
I’ve got some very definite ideas about what I do and don’t want, but I’m also open to breaking all the rules, so hope you’re up for a challenge!”
-
Heathers a photographer/designer/marketer & Phil’s a multimedia *legend* who seems to be amazing at everything, from video & sound to technology & awesome iPhone apps, so being a creative couple they had very strong ideas about what they wanted & needed someone to do their ideas justice!
In addition to all that, I’ve also had the pleasure of working with Heather on a few shoots over the past few months (including Sarah’s Bridal Session & The (infamous) Poppy Shoot)
So I knew I really had to do a good job here!! So, no pressure!!!!
St Matthias Church, is near Fiveways – a busy part of Brighton & I’d driven past it loads of times, but had no idea how amazing it looked inside! Also, due to the fantastic windows, it was wonderfully bright! which made photographing inside an absolute pleasure!!
When I arrived at the Church I had some time to Hang out with Phil, get a few nice portraits
Phil was calming the nerves with a bit of Digit Disco, the iPhone game he launched a few weeks ago :)
Here he is with his Brother (who was also a great Usher!)… it all starts of all very formal, but not for long!!
Just before Heather arrived, I caught up with her Sister (Also Heathers Bridesmaid) for this funky little detail shot of the Flowers – the polka dots totally make the image!!
Heather, looking stunning! In an Amazing one-off dress Fabulous!
Just look at the stunning detailing!

I’ve wanted to do a piano/flower shot for ages, but never had a piano! Now, though, I realise how hard it is to get the bouquet to stand up!!! I love the picture though! well worth it!!

Fast forward to a few from the ceremony – I love photographing Church weddings! I seem to get less and less Church enquiries these days, so its real treat, especially when the church is awesome & the light is just deliciously easy to work with!!

A shot to capture the size of the church! Look at that roof!

Cant beat a bit of confetti action!! – there are 5 from this scene – going to make a STUNNING album spread!!

We had really limited time to get a few portraits, but it doesn’t take long I love this one!
And this one, inspired by the Bridal session heather came along for! HOT!

The weddings reception was an amazing tea party! Put together by the wonderful Mrs Fitzpatrick’s – I’ve never seen anything quite like it, but it worked so well! So many cute details!!
All of the places had little quotes, as well as individual name cards, it was a detail lovers dream!!
And a sweet table! OMG words can’t describe how awesome these guys are! SWEETS! really!!
There’s only one thing better than a sweet table… & that’s cakes!!! The chocolate cake was amazing, I didn’t try the carrot or walnut, but heard great reviews around the room!!
The tea party theme wouldn’t be complete without Tea!! Assam & Earl Grey, in teapots… with Tea Cosies… quintessentially British & 100% awesome!
(BTW Any American blog stalkers… this has probably just reinforced any stereotype you’ve ever had about us! but we don’t care, we love our tea!!!!)

Lovely Tea Cosies!! Such a funky theme ![]()
I think Phil liked the sweet table!! ![]()
They seated me with their friends, which was great!! (Thanks for making me so welcome guys!!), but I promised to share this next one… all in the name of fun – I love my job!!

And as people wouldn’t recognise this as my work without a bit of f-word-flare: (perhaps the ‘f’ in this blogs ‘f-word’…actually is flare?!?)
I could probably put up loads more! But I don’t want to spoil any surprises for Heather & Phil’s album!! May post a few more once the album really gets underway!
what a fantastic wedding – a dream shoot, you lucky boy xoxo
Soft, serene and loads of lovely details. I ADORE the table settings shots and your trio ‘filmstrips’ are an excellent way of telling the story of the day. You stormed that ‘challenge’!
Now that looks one cool wedding – even I would probably have enjoyed shooting that do ;o) Brilliant work Mr F.
What fab images – really love the piano one! And the one of Heather on her own in front of the church door – beautiful!
Cool cool cool, definitely lived up to expectation and more, I’m sure! Love the details and portraits, and the light in the church.
Oh, and how do you get the bouquet to stand up on the piano?!
I LOVE these! How awesome is that wedding theme?! Love it!! And all your detail shots! That bouquet with the piano shot is so gorgeous.. and the church looks amazing! That bridal portrait in front of the door is one of my favourites too, she looks stunning!
