A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of traveling from Sussex up to Aylesbury, to photograph Lizzie & Duncan’s wedding.
Loving a good road trip I took a meandering route through Suffolk for a family photography session on route.
I’d been looking forward to their wedding ever since skyping with Lizzie & hearing all about their plans – they wanted a wedding that was part garden party, part festival – all the things I love in a wedding! & with their talented, creative, bunch of friends providing lots of the entertainment, decoration & indeed food, I knew it was going to be a cracking day.
They had their wedding in a huge, beautifully decorated marquee in the back garden of the family home & the breathtaking views from the garden made for such a perfect spot to spend the day. The ceremony took place at the village church, just a stones throw down the road – St. Mary’s Church, where the entire village had turned out to see Lizzie arrive.
After the ceremony they led a procession of their guests back to the farm house, for food & drink, music & laughter. Lots & lots of Laughter! – Lizzie’s a comedy writer & performer (as were some of her bridesmaids!) & Duncan’s an accountant – but after hearing his speech, comedy could definitely be in his future – he channeled his inner Alan Partridge & created one of the funniest speeches I’ve heard in a while!
The beautiful, rustic farm buildings dotted around the area made for wonderful places to take photos – and as Lizzie grew up here, she’d used lots of the buildings we photographed by, as play areas when she was a child! – I love capturing things like that in my photos!
To cap it all off, they had the best song ever – Magic Dance by David Bowie, from the incredible film Labyrinth – as their first dance! Rarely has a first dance made me smile so much!!
Massive thanks to Lizzie, Duncan & everyone else for having me along.
