My whole approach to wedding photography is about making sure you have the best day. I want you to have an amazing time with your family and friends, while I capture it naturally.

9 out of 10 couples I speak to, including all of the lovely smiling & relaxed faces you’ve seen in my portfolio say the same thing to me ‘We’re not naturals in front of the camera’.

“We’re not naturals in front of the camera…”

Literally everyone

The point is, your wedding photos should capture you at your happiest and most relaxed—but feeling comfortable in front of the camera doesn’t always come naturally. I know it doesnt for me – fortunately I’m the other side of the camera. But as someone who not only knows what it feels like to be awkward in front of the camera, and someone who has helped hundreds of couples get through the awkwardness, I’m here to help!

Here’s a practical guide full of useful tips to ensure your photography experience is stress-free and enjoyable, giving you beautiful photos you’ll treasure forever.

1. Pick the Right Photographer (that’s me!)

Choosing someone whose style you love and personality you vibe with makes all the difference. Let’s chat in advance, either in person or via video call, so on your wedding day I’ll already feel like a friend. My whole thing is about being a friend with a camera, an extension of your circle who is there to capture it all and make sure everything runs smoothly.

2. Have an Engagement Shoot

An engagement shoot is the perfect way to break the ice, get comfortable with my approach, and ease into being photographed. It’s relaxed, fun, and a great chance to talk through any wedding-day ideas or concerns. You can see more about my engagement photography here.

3. Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera

Forget I’m even there—just focus on each other. I’ll set you up in nice light and you can laugh, talk, and interact naturally. After a few moments of ‘this is awkward’ – you’ll transition to ‘we’re having an awesome day aren’t we’ or ‘did you see what aunt Shiela was wearing?!?’. My documentary style thrives when couples relax and simply enjoy their time together, and this is when I’m capturing genuine, unposed moments.

4. Keep Group Photos Short and Sweet

Group photos are lovely, but less is definitely more! Keeping them to around 8-10 groups means you spend less time standing in line and more time enjoying your guests. The period when your chatting to your guests is the time I’m working my magic, capturing you all those lovely candid moments.

5. Tell Me What You’re Nervous About

We all have a best side or feel awkward sometimes—and that’s perfectly okay. If there’s anything you’re worried about, please let me know. I’ve had people tell me about scars, angles they don’t like or even couples that don’t feel comfortable holding hands – it’s all good, Knowing these little details means I can ensure you feel your best and capture you naturally. We can work through anything and ensure you get pictures that capture you as you are.

6. Breathe (Seriously!)

Sounds obvious, but it’s easy to forget to breathe deeply during emotional moments. Taking a quick breath, taking stock of whats happening – relaxing your shoulders, and giving yourself permission to slow down can significantly help you look and feel more relaxed.

7. Take Breaks and Time Outs

Your wedding will be amazing, emotional, and maybe a little overwhelming – it’s completely normal. Even being surrounded by that many people can be exhausting – so If you need a few minutes to reset, take it! I’ll capture candid shots of your guests and venue details while you recharge.

8. Trust Me – We’ve Got This!

My job is to help you feel comfortable and help you enjoy the day. Trust me to guide you gently through your photos without any awkward posing. Together, we’ll capture beautifully authentic, relaxed photographs you’ll genuinely love.

Follow these tips, and you’ll not only enjoy the experience but also have stunning, natural photographs of your wedding day.
