Kate & David

Kate & David got married earlier this year in Newick, a lovely little village in Sussex. Newick is a village I’d driven through more times that I can remember, but had no clue how lovely the community contained within was!

Fortunately that all changed at Kate & David’s wedding – Lovely is an understatement – from beginning to end, this crowd knew how to have fun!

Photographing Kate’s bridal preparations, at The Chequers,Maresfield, was a surreal experience in itself, as 3 of the four people in the room were my clients, all of whose weddings were rapidly approaching! In addition to Kate there was Emily, Kates’ lovely bridesmaid & Jeni, an immensely skilled make up artist. So I was certainly feeling the pressure to be on my best behaviour otherwise I would have been in for a few months of awkwardness!

Jen & Will

Jen & Will’s wedding took place at Dodford Manor. They surrounded themselves with the people they love (including Nic & Will, who’s wedding I shot a few years ago!) & had an amazing day filled with Japanese & Iranian influences, a healthy splash of Anchorman & the wonderfully unpredictable British weather (amongst other things!)

I knew they were going to be good fun to work with, after their engagement session, and knowing some of their guests from previous weddings I knew it was going to be a relaxed, fun day. Admittedly, The weather tried to put a damper on plans, but no amount of cold & rain could contain J&Ws (& their guests) enthusiasm & happiness! Onto the story –

As I’d stayed in the same hotel as them the night before, I popped in to see the boys, who were busy writing their speeches!

Heather & Tim

Heather & Tim are rarely in the UK, but after getting to know them a little bit over the internet, it was such a thrill to join them for their wedding, I’ve photographed a handful of Grittenham Barn Weddings & they’re always awesome!

Heather & Tim’s was the epitome of what weddings are about – A chance to celebrate, catch up with old fiends and have a great time, Friends and family alike contributed in a variety of ways to infuse character and charm throughout the day! From the chef, to the bartender, to the serving staff – everyone had a personal connection to Heather, Tim or their friends – a fantastic thing to witness!

I’m always treated amazingly well by my clients and their guests, and H&Ts wedding was no exception – I arrived a little earlier to the bridal preps than I was expected, So early Heather hadn’t returned from the Hairdressers yet, but I was welcomed & treated to breakfast with the family (Thank you!!)

Danielle & Mark

Dani & Mark tied the knot at Buxted park – a lovely venue in sussex I’d been to a few times before, but never for a wedding! It’s a lovely hotel surrounded by gorgeous Sussex countryside, with a ton of great outdoor space,  & a fantastic orangery (think big conservatory!) – which is bright & a really great space for parties!

Having not met D&M before their big day I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into it & I was blown away! Two sweet, creative people (Mark made their rings!), a day filled with fun, loads of fabulous details & beautiful weather – which helped enormously during the outdoor ceremony!

Ana & Roly

After a seriously busy wedding season, I’m finally catching up on my editing & finding time to share some of the lovely weddings from earlier in the year!

We headed west and stayed in Bristol for a few days, in preparation to shoot the beautiful wedding of Ana & Roly! I first met Ana & Roly in London, where we had afternoon tea in a very posh hotel, to discuss their upcoming wedding, I knew their wedding was going to be fabulous, as they’re such laid back, fun people to be around.

They got married in Somerset, the majority of the day took place at Ana’s parents place, with the ceremony & legal bit taking part in nearby Wells Town Hall. It was a great day with an Anglo-Brazilian theme to it! Celebrating Roly’s british roots & Ana’s brazilian heritage – Going into it, I wasn’t quite sure what it was going to look like, but had ideas of it being colourful, fun – full of life, love & laughter – it delivered on all counts! Thanks to Ana & Roly for having me along! =)

Becca & Dave

Becca & Dave’s wedding back in July, was all about family & friends, with everyone contributing to make their day amazing & unique! – It took place in Becca’s parents garden in an amazing marquee that had been decorated with literally miles of bunting & looked fantastic! A friend of the family  made the dress, the catering was provided by someone Becca used to waitress for & Jill, Becca’s godmother made the (beautiful!) cake! Truly a team effort &  the love for B&D was obvious! Was a lot of fun to be a part of!

Ivan & Gary

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Ivan & Gary’s lovely, intimate gay wedding at Nymans Gardens, Even though it rained an insane amount, it was still a perfect day filled with love, laughter & beautiful moments.  They surrounded themselves with their families and the people they cared about the most & it was beautiful to be a part of! Having not photographed a gay wedding before, It was a great experience for me! Thanks for including me in your day, guys!

update: Since Ivan & Gary’s wonderful wedding way back in 2012, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing lots of gay weddings & lesbian weddings all across Brighton, Sussex & beyond. If you’re looking for a gay wedding photographer & like what the look of my work, don’t hesitate to get in touch! This was also my very first wedding at Nymans – a place I’ve been back to many times now for weddings!

Kate & Lincoln

After meeting them, hanging out with them for their engagement session & getting to know them over the course of a year – Kate & Lincoln’s Pangdean Barn wedding was a day that couldn’t arrive quick enough for me – every time I saw that Kate had visited my website (My web stats show a lot of visits from San Francisco, I don’t know anyone other than K&L in SF!) the anticipation increased just that bit more! So even though the weather was not kind (massive understatement), it was still a brilliant, beautiful day filled to the brim with emotion, excitement & fun.

I adore doing weddings for people who live overseas – often they haven’t seen their friends and family in some time, especially all together – so it really adds to the sense of occasion and makes the photographs all the more important.

Kate grew up around Sussex, so it was only natural for her to come back here for her wedding, to get married at the family church and celebrate amongst her Sussex based family and friends. They also brought a not-so-small contingent of world travellers, with people hailing from various parts of America and all across the world – so many wonderfully interesting people!

They got married at the beautiful St Peters Church in Ardingly, before heading over to one of my favourite local venues Pangdean Barns. I do love a good barn wedding & Pangdean Barn weddings are always brilliant, Michael, Nikki and the team always have everything running like clockwork and even on a day of pretty bad weather everything went smoothly.

Slight side story, I was talking to Kate during the day, and mentioned how disappointed I was for them that the weather had turned out so badly – certainly not something to expect in the middle of summer! But Kate said something that that will stick with me for ever.

She said that the weather didn’t matter, and that she was grateful that I was there capturing photographs of her friends and family having an amazing time, that those were the images that mattered the most to her and those were the images I was capturing.

That truly resonated with me and is certainly something I’ll carry with me forever.

It’s not about the weather, the location or the details – of course, all of those things add to the story, matter and deserve capturing. But the point is – weddings are about the people. It’s the people, the moments and the personal stories where the true magic of wedding photography lies.

Onward with the important story! I started the day briefly with Lincoln in the pub. Mainly as I’d already been to see Kate, when the bridesmaids, in various state of preparedness, ran away like startled deer – albeit way more glamorous. Meeting with the boys for a little gave them all time to prepare for the day, so by the time I came back they were excited to be in photos!

Anne & Matt

Anne & Matt got married, on a rainy day in May at the gorgeous Bradbourne House in Kent. A great day surrounded by familiar faces as I know many of their guests from Helen & Adam’s wedding last August – Such a lovely bunch! Anne & Matt, of course, are the main stars here though & after their engagement session. I was really excited for their wedding day – and it didn’t disappoint.

I had my friend Stuart James shooting with me for this as Anne & Matt wanted coverage of both sides of the mornings preparations. I started the day with Anne & the girls; while, Stuart was shooting the boys.
