National Trust Weddings – Laura & Gavin

Laura and Gavin knew one thing early on. They wanted to be married outdoors. Plans shifted a few times while they were organising everything, dates moved, venues changed, but that part stayed constant. Being outside mattered to them.

They are both outdoorsy, adventure-led people. A wedding that boxed them in would never have felt right. In the end they chose Nymans for their ceremony, standing beneath the Loggia with the gardens behind them. It ticked every box. August sun, full greenery, that slightly wild backdrop that Nymans does so well.

The morning started at The Grand Brighton, where Laura got ready overlooking the seafront on a bright summer morning. I then headed over to meet Gavin and the guests at The Waggon & Horses before everyone climbed aboard an old London bus and made the journey through the Sussex countryside to Nymans. It set the tone nicely. Relaxed, sociable, a bit of an occasion without being over the top.

After the ceremony in the Loggia, guests made their way back to Brighton for the reception at The Coach House. That split between countryside ceremony and seaside celebration suited them perfectly. It felt like two parts of their world coming together in one day.

Laura and Gavin are the kind of couple who genuinely enjoy each other’s company. There’s an ease between them. A sense that they are constantly planning the next adventure. Their friends brought plenty of energy as well, which made the evening in Brighton lively from the start. Speeches were funny, dancing enthusiastic, and the day never felt staged.

We had photographed at Nymans many times before this wedding, but it always feels different depending on the couple. Laura and Gavin used the space exactly as it was meant to be used. Outside. Surrounded by greenery. With the focus on each other.

An August wedding that started in the gardens at Nymans and ended by the sea in Brighton. Very much them.
