THE STORY OF
Lindsay + Ron
A brilliantly fun couple, who had the most joy filled & colourful day at Appuldurcombe House, on the Isle of Wight. Neon colours, blazing sun and incredible views. Good times.
Arriving early to set the scene, the beautiful, tree lined drive way basking in the morning light
Appuldurcome House is a beautiful venue on the south side of the Isle of Wight. A former manor house that was bombed during the WW2 and now, although largely ruined plays host to stylish weddings & events in the few refurbished rooms. The ruined parts make for great photos.
They decorated the stunning reception room with neon colours, funky candles and table names with local place names on – truly celebrating the island.
Arriving nice after and early a smooth ferry crossing, I had the chance to catch up with Ron and the boys before they had even started getting ready, doubling as a great chance to explore the grounds at Appuldurcombe.
Lindsay and the ladies were getting ready in a nearby farmhouse. Appuldurcombe is fantastic in its versatility and the set up, especially for the morning – with various cottages for everyone to get ready you can really make a weekend of it.
Working alongside me for the day was the lovely Jess Lyon, who covered the boys getting ready and did a fabulous job all across the day.
Ron’s buttonhole was a perfect match to the hot pink colours of the rest of the details.
Their wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Brighstone
Lindsay, with her amazingly keen eye for detail had sent me samples of the various options for confetti ahead of the day, from natural petals to neon paper circles – keen to get as much colour in her day as imaginable – Epic.
After the ceremony, we made a short detour to the cliffs on the south side of the island
The cliffs on the south side of the island are truly beautiful – even though we were there at shortly after midday, when the sun is at it’s most difficult to work with – it couldn’t hide the epically stunning beauty of the area.
Meanwhile Jess followed the guests onto Appuldurcombe who were greated with plenty of canapes and drinks
Once Lindsay & Ron arrived, they were serenaded by a male choir – what a treat for their guests!
Appuldurcombe is, essentially, ruin at the front, party at the back – glorious ruins full of interesting arches and textures hiding a magnificent events space at the back with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
Lindsay has a background in fashion & styling, so many of her friends are from the same world – so naturally, the outfits, colours and attention to detail was high!
Lindsay had put together so many gorgeous details, from feathers to wicker chairs (thrones!), tea crates to vintage glass wear – naturally a photobooth arrangement came together and everyone was all too happy to pose!
Towards the end of their drinks reception, we took Lindsay and Ron off for a few moments, a nice chance for them to have some time together and a perfect opportunity to capture some gorgeous, relaxed portraits around Appuldurcombe’s ruined bits.
It’s so easy, as a wedding photographer to focus almost entirely on the big story, the big moments – the obvious ‘wedding’ and all that entails. We’ve adjusted our approach in certain parts of the day, shifting the focus from the obvious to the less obvious. Capturing the guests a little more, outside of their ‘moments’. Sharing the outfits, the style – the characters that make up the day.
A fantastic day with fantastic people, thank you so much to Lindsay and Ron for having us along. Thanks also to everyone that made the day so special.
