Katie & Max’s West Sussex Wedding at Farbridge

Where to begin with Katie and Max’s wedding at Farbridge. It was one of those Sussex days that never really dipped. From the first moments of prep through to the last dance, the whole thing carried a kind of rolling energy and joy.

Farbridge sits just outside Chichester, tucked into the West Sussex countryside, and it suits couples like this. Open skies, barns that feel warm rather than formal, fields within easy reach when you need a bit of space. As a Documentary wedding photographer in Sussex, venues like Farbridge make it easy to let the day unfold naturally. Everything flows. Nothing feels forced.

Max said in his speech that they are usually the happiest people in whatever room they are in. It was hard to argue with that. Smiles rarely left their faces, aside from the quieter, emotional moments that inevitably come when you stand up in front of the people who know you best. Their friends and family matched them for energy. From the morning excitement in the prep rooms behind the barn to the full dance floor later on, the mood never wavered.

One thing Katie told me beforehand was that, beyond marrying Max, she was most excited about seeing everyone else have a good time. They had put real thought into their guests’ experience. Lawn games set up outside. Plenty of food and drink. Beer pong in full swing. Even cigars later in the evening. It felt generous. They weren’t hosting a performance, they were hosting a party.

Weddings in Sussex often have that balance between countryside calm and proper celebration, and this was a perfect example. The layout at Farbridge works so well for that. Guests can move easily between barn and garden, between speeches and fresh air. When we stepped out into the rolling fields for portraits, it took minutes, not a full relocation. They were never away from their guests for long.

What stayed with me most was how loved they are. It was obvious in the speeches, in the hugs, in the way people looked at them throughout the day. Katie and Max created a wedding that felt big in energy but grounded in connection. Exactly the kind of Sussex celebration that reminds me why I love photographing weddings across this county.

As well as the photography, I also created a film of their day, which felt like a natural extension of the atmosphere. A way to hold onto the movement and noise as well as the still moments.
