A Bit About the Venue
Long Furlong Barn is tucked away in the Sussex countryside, not far from Worthing. It’s a Grade II listed barn with proper rustic charm, open views across the South Downs, and a really relaxed vibe. The layout is ideal for weddings, with indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, a big courtyard for mingling, and loads of space for golden hour portraits in the fields.
Jackie & Liam’s Wedding at Long Furlong Barn
Jackie and Liam got married on one of those perfect May days. Blue skies, warm sun, and that kind of gentle breeze that keeps everything feeling fresh. It was a small, lovely celebration with around 70 of their favourite people.
The Morning in Arundel
Jackie got ready in an Airbnb in Arundel with her best friends. The atmosphere was calm but excited, with Jenna West on hair and makeup making sure everyone felt like their best selves. Jackie wore a beautiful Justin Alexander dress, simple and elegant, and the moment her dad saw her for the first time was one of those emotional little pockets of the day that stick with you.
Ceremony in the Cartshed
The ceremony took place in the Cartshed, a bright indoor space full of character and fairy lights. Jackie said it was the only ceremony room that made her stop and say wow when she first saw it, and you could see why. The light was soft, the setup was warm and inviting, and there wasn’t a dry eye when Jackie walked in. Seeing Liam waiting at the end of the aisle, and the reaction from all their people, was everything she’d hoped for.
Courtyard Drinks and Rustic Details
After the ceremony, everyone headed into the courtyard. It’s such a great spot for drinks and chats and all those in-between moments that make a wedding feel real. The flowers, done by Greenfingers, were full of pretty colours that suited the rustic theme perfectly. Jackie’s aunt made the cake, which added a sweet personal touch to the day, quite literally.
Golden Hour in the Fields
Later on, as the sun began to dip behind the hills, we went into the fields for portraits. Jackie had one photo in her head she’d been dreaming of. Something that captured her dress and the landscape, something she’d look back on when she was older and smile. That golden light did its thing, and she absolutely got the shot she’d been hoping for.
A Proper Party in the Granary
When the evening rolled in, the Granary barn came to life. Northern Quarter were the band and they smashed it. The fairy lights, the music, the packed dance floor — it all came together and felt exactly how a wedding should. Full of love and laughter and a bit of chaos in the best way.
Why They Picked Long Furlong Barn
“I loved the Cartshed. It was the only ceremony room I really thought wow when I walked in. I really like the courtyard between the barns. I think it’ll make a lovely drinks reception area and a space for guests to congregate throughout the wedding. Also love the views from the barn over the fields.”
With most of their guests being friends rather than extended family, they wanted something laid back and beautiful. Long Furlong Barn gave them space to celebrate without any fuss, and room to make it feel like their own.
Planning Tips for Long Furlong Barn
Set aside time for sunset photos in the fields. The light is unreal.
Keep the courtyard in mind when planning your flow. It’s a brilliant spot for post-ceremony drinks, but can be quite exposed - keep the drinks flowing. Jackie and Liam had evening ice creams out there too!
You don’t need to over-style the space. The barns already look great - with just flowers and candlelight, you can dial the magic up.
If you’re planning your own wedding at Long Furlong Barn and want someone to capture it as it really felt, I’d love to hear from you.
