Alice and Dan’s wedding was one of those early autumn days that still felt like summer. Warm sunshine, a light breeze, and that golden September glow across the South Downs. They brought together 140 of their favourite people for a day that was all about connection, fun and making memories, from a classic village church ceremony to a laid-back, joy-filled party at Selden Barns.
The Ceremony: A Village Church in the Downs
The day started in Findon, with a beautiful ceremony at St John the Baptist Church. It’s a charming old flint building tucked into the edge of the Downs, with loads of character and a peaceful, tucked-away feel. It suited Alice and Dan perfectly – classic, warm and full of love.
Selden Barns: Space to Celebrate
After the ceremony, everyone made their way to Selden Barns, which sits in 50 acres of countryside just outside Worthing. The couple chose it for a mix of reasons -the space, the scenery, the rustic vibe and the freedom to make it their own.
The setup worked beautifully. Drinks on the terrace, views across the fields, and a big open barn to carry the party through from speeches to dancing. With 140 guests, it never felt crowded -just full of energy.
The Details That Brought It All Together
Alice wore a stunning Maggie Sottero gown that moved beautifully in the breeze, especially during the portraits in the fields later in the day. Hair was styled by Kitty Boo, and makeup was by Becky Rosebud -both kept things natural and elegant.
The Gourmet Chef handled catering, and the food was a real highlight -generous, relaxed and full of flavour, just like the rest of the day.
The Bits That Mattered Most
Before the day, we asked Alice what she was most excited about. Her answer? “Having a dance with the band, socialising with our friends and family, playing games – and the first time we see each other on the day.”
That moment at the church when Alice walked in and their eyes met? It lived up to everything. And from there, the day just rolled naturally – laughter during the speeches, lawn games with the kids, friends catching up in the courtyard.
The band got everyone dancing later on, just as Alice had hoped, and the atmosphere was electric.
Golden Hour and That One Dream Shot
As the sun started to drop behind the hills, we snuck away with Alice and Dan into the fields behind Selden Barns. This was the shot she’d imagined from the beginning – the two of them, just married, standing together with the South Downs behind them and the sky glowing gold.
It’s the kind of photo you frame and never take down. Simple, honest, full of love. A quiet moment in the middle of a busy, brilliant day.
Why Selden Barns Works So Well
It’s got space without losing atmosphere. You can personalise every detail but still rely on a great setup. And the sunsets? You’ll remember them for the rest of your life.
