From all the wedding pre-planning chats I’d had with Angela and Matt, I knew their day was going to be brilliant and I was really looking forward to it. The day itself was meticulously planned – these guys sure know how to plan a party! – but there was a wonderfully warm and relaxed vibe. The attention to detail was incredible and Angela and Matt had put so much thought and effort into making sure their guests had the best possible day – and as you’ll see from the photos, they definitely did!
Angela is a Sussex University Alumni so she chose the University’s own Meeting House as the venue for their ceremony. The Meeting House is always such a beautiful setting to photograph in, with its multi-coloured glass panels and quirky interior.
As well as a traditional wedding blessing, because of Angela’s Newfoundland heritage, the ceremony included a Screech-In. The Screech-In is performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a “come from away” or “mainlander”) involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod – nothing says love like kissing a large plastic cod!
The Party Field Lewes was a new wedding venue for me but it was the perfect setting for Angela and Matt’s festival-style day. Located in Lewes, with the backdrop of the South Downs, The Party Field is perfect for anyone planning a countryside wedding in a setting that they can really out their own stamp on. You get exclusive use of the venue for your special day and you’re pretty much free to design the day as you want, street food vendors, bell tents, yurts, live music, performers and anything else you can dream of!
For Angela and Matt’s wedding the weather was blisteringly hot and there were donkeys, heaps of lawn games and activities, live music, picnic snack bags, an ice-cream van and a beautiful wedding pie feast, provided by Pie-minister.
Angela is a professional comedian (if you’re a fan of Mock the Week then you’ll probably recognise her as one of the regular panellists!) so the vibe of the day was super upbeat – and when all your best mates are also comedians you can imagine how hilarious the speeches were! And as evening approached and the sun began to set over the South Downs the party got into full swing with fab music, dancing and of course, a lot of laughs!
