Alice & Greg
Alice and Greg got married just before Christmas at Cowdray House. It was the most magical day!
The Details: Cowdray House Wedding Photography
A Cowdray House wedding is always a grand affair, and this was no exception!
Planning an afternoon ceremony in late December, Alice knew from the start it would likely be cold and dark, meaning the majority of their day would be inside. But she couldn’t have chosen a grander location, and she certainly couldn’t have picked a more fitting place for a Christmas wedding. The Cowdray estate and the great hall looked perfect – including the biggest Christmas tree we have ever seen! We were also briefed to get lots of lovely photos of the fireplaces roaring away in the library – something that we naturally would have done, more so given the coldness of the day, any excuse to go near a lovely warm fire!
Alice got ready with her bridesmaids at the family home in Hampshire, and as she grew up in the house it was only right that we captured lots of details showing the history – like the lovely little detail on her childhood bedroom door!
The Church: St Thomas a Becket Church
The ceremony took place at the beautiful St Thomas A Becket Church in Havant, a church we’re pretty familiar with, having photographed Liv & Neil’s wedding there a couple of years back. It’s a beautiful little church just a stone’s throw from Alice’s family home, and as it’s been the family church for many years, made for the perfect location to tie the knot surrounded.
The Venue: Cowdray House
After their wonderful and emotional ceremony, we headed out into the rain and onwards to Cowdray House. Because of the time of year, it was getting dark as they arrived at Cowdray, so we had discussed a plan to do their couple portraits and the majority of their photography inside the house, with the great hall and various other locations in mind – some great options for sure.
But as if by magic, when they arrived – the rain stopped, and the sun popped out! It was only daylight for a quarter of an hour, but that gave us all the opportunity we need to create some magical portrait. – Honestly some of the loveliest winter light I’ve had the pleasure for using in my photography.
After the light had faded, we returned to warmth of Cowdray House, where they spent the night enjoying wonderful food and hilarious speeches in the buck hall, before dancing, laughing and enjoying what can only be described as fishbowls of gin late into the night – top work!
Not only did we photograph this lovely Cowdray House Wedding, but we filmed it too – check out the video over on our films page.
