I love this wedding so much, it had everything about weddings that I love – from the location to the wonderful, friendly people, to tons of sumptuous details & heaps of rustic charm. I adore Lewes – it’s by far my favourite town! I essentially grew up there, and go back as much as I can! These days I find myself there for quite a few Pelham House Weddings too!
Tom & Lauren came down from Windsor for a slice of relaxed, country chic for their wedding – their ceremony was at the (on this day, wind & rain-battered, yet still) beautiful Lewes Castle & after that they headed a little out of town to the equally beautiful Iford village hall.
Lauren looked amazing, even when ascending the million-plus steps up to the castle (accurate, I counted!) & Tom looked very dapper hanging out to the sounds of Jurassic Five (very, very good choice.) – it was an absolute joy to be a part of. Then they brought out a pizza oven & I was in Heaven.
Highlights of the day included the Land Rover that Tom & his dad spent years restoring – it was meticulous! The gorgeous decor that L+T had picked out for the hall – it looked incredible & they truly made it their own & for me, the chilled out atmosphere they achieved was just amazing to be a part of – everyone was incredibly friendly & really embraced the spirit of the day.
Of course, I just had to finish the day using Toms ‘Landy’ to good effect – who needs flash when you’ve got full beams?
Thanks for having me as your wedding photographer Lauren & Tom!
UPDATE: A few years after their wedding, Lauren and Tom’s family grew, when they welcomed their beautiful daughter into the world. I was delighted when they got in touch with me to book a family photography session and it was a real pleasure catching up with them and meeting the new arrival.
Lewes Castle Weddings
It’s not often you can get married in an actual castle. Lewes Castle is a medieval castle at the top of a huge hill, overlooking Lewes and the surrounding area. With lots of close by reception spaces and easy access from Brighton and London, Lewes castle is a very popular spot for couples wanting to get married in a Castle – we often get couples from London heading down to tie the knot overlooking the Sussex countryside. A few ideas for popular reception venues in Lewes can be found in our article.
Iford Village Hall
Lauren and Tom chose to celebrate their wedding at Iford village hall, just a little way down the road from Lewes. As Lewes castle doesn’t have much space for a reception and especially given the unreliable British weather, it made a lot of sense to relocate halfway indoors through the day. They took over the village hall and decorated it with bunting, flowers and lots of personal touches before partying late into the night with live music and pizzas.
Shout outs to the following people that made the day run so smoothly –
Dress: Susanne Neville
Cake: Lou Worley (A friend of Lauren & Tom)
Afternoon Tea: Jam and Tea
Pizza: Tinderbox
String Duet: Surrey Strings
